Straddling I-35 along the Innovation Corridor, just north of San Marcos and 20 miles south of Austin, Kyle is the second largest city in Hays County. Kyle enjoys a location convenient to most major population centers in Texas.
The City of Kyle was founded in 1880 by nearby settlers from the communities of Blanco and Mountain City. Fergus Kyle, for whom the town was named, and the family of David Moore donated 200 acres of land for a town site when the International and Great Northern Railroad built a line connecting Austin to San Antonio.
Today Kyle is a thriving city and is known as the Pie Capital of Texas since it is home to one of the region’s best pie shops. Residence and guest can enjoy the Pie in the Sky Hot Air Balloon Festival every Labor Day weekend featuring spectacular hot air balloons, live music, kite shows, great food, pie-eating contests, a pie baking contest, and fireworks.
Kyle is an excellent place to put down roots, open a business and become part of the community. Residents and visitors can enjoy our many events and activities throughout the year: Polar Bear Splash, Easter Extravaganza, Kyle Market Days, Movies in the Park, Kyle Pie in the Sky, Founders Parade, Spook the Halls, Trick or Treat on Center Street, Santa on the Square Tree Lighting
